Introduction to the Institute

The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics is a leading department in the College of Health Sciences and falls under the Rehabilitation Sciences specializations. It combines advanced scientific knowledge with practical skills to design and apply prosthetics and orthoses to improve the quality of life for individuals with mobility impairments or injuries resulting from: Chronic diseases (such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis). Physical injuries (fractures, amputations). Neurologic or musculoskeletal disorders.

Objectives of the Prosthetics Institute

  1. Empowering students professionally and technically:
    • Providing students with advanced knowledge in the design and manufacture of prosthetics and orthoses, in accordance with international quality standards (such as ISO).
    • Developing clinical skills to assess patients’ needs and accurately fit prosthetic devices.
  2. Promoting teamwork and innovation:
    • Developing effective communication skills and working within multidisciplinary teams (doctors, engineers, physical therapists).
  3. Building Ethical Leadership:
    • Instilling values ​​of professional integrity and medical confidentiality, while adhering to Clinical Practice Guidelines.
    • Raising awareness of the importance of cultural and social considerations when designing devices (such as considering local customs in form and function).
  4. Promoting Critical Thinking and Problem Solving:
    • Train them to manage projects under pressure while maintaining the quality of output.

Admission requirements to the Prosthetics Institute

  1. Obtaining a General Secondary Certificate (Science) or its equivalent.
  2. Meeting the admission requirements set by the Higher Education Council.
  3. Full-time study.

  • Duration: Two academic years (4 semesters).
  • Time Distribution:
    • Two semesters per year, each lasting 12 weeks.
  • Study Plan: Combines theoretical lectures (60%) and practical training (40%).

  • Attendance of 75% of the theoretical and practical lectures for each course is required.
  • A student will be denied entry to the final exam if they fail to achieve the required grade.

Assessment and Examinations

  • Grade Distribution:
    • Practical Assessment (Classwork): 30-40 marks (includes: projects, quizzes, presentations).
    • Final Exam: 60-70 marks (exam duration: 2 hours).
  • Success Requirements:
    • Achieving a minimum of 60% of the total marks Course.
  • Failure: A student will be denied the final exam if they score less than 12/30 or 16/40 on the coursework.

Educational Objective:

Mary University is an educational institution that aims to provide knowledge, and is not a platform for disseminating intellectual, political, or ideological trends on campus.

Cheating Control:

Cheating in exams is subject to the instructions issued by the University of Mary and the previously announced decisions of the Higher Education Council.

Student Objections:

Students are allowed to file an objection to exam results within the specified period, provided they pay the required fees for each course.

 

Terms and Conditions

Miscellaneous Provisions:Practical Training:

1. Course Selection:

  • The College Council determines the courses and the number of approved semesters at the beginning of each semester.
  • The Council has the right to amend course descriptions in accordance with scientific developments in dentistry.

Second Year:

  • Intensive training in accredited laboratories for the manufacture of prosthetic limbs and orthotic supports.
  • Practical application in the design of custom devices using modern materials (carbon fiber, medical silicone).

2. Amendments to the Study Plan:

In the event of amending the study plan, the College Council issues transitional decisions that reconcile the old and new systems, after approval by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Exceptions:
The Higher Education Council may exempt any item from these regulations by a justified and written decision.

3. General Regulations:

The provisions of the Higher Education Council and university regulations shall apply to any case not stipulated in these regulations.
